What Makes Fat Loss So Hard?

What Makes Fat Loss So Hard?

The key to sustainable fat loss is not “cutting calories”, “working out”, or “changing our diet”.

Yes, we absolutely do need to do all of this for immediate fat loss.

But we’re talking about sustainable fat loss now: how to reduce body fat in the smoothest and most pain-free way, and how to keep it off afterwards.

And there is one thing that determines this more than any other: our hormones.

Hormones are messenger chemicals in the body. They tell our cells what to do or not do, including: whether to burn fat or keep it, and whether to feel hungry or full.

If we’re having any trouble losing excess fat, or gaining it in the first place, this is due to hormones that are out of balance.

This is what causes excess fat creation when it shouldn’t occur, what prevents us from losing excess fat despite our best efforts, what keeps our energy levels low and our hunger cravings high, and what ensures that even if we push through all the way and lose the fat… we’re going to gain it back again.

It’s unbalanced hormones. And to fix these, we need to fix our nutrition.

You see, there are foods that trigger fat creation and foods that trigger fat loss, and they do this by triggering the hormones that regulate body fat.

I won’t go too deep here, but most processed foods ensure you will gain fat and keep it.

This is for two reasons:

First is the processed sugars and extra (hidden) carbohydrates they contain — much more than our bodies are used to or need.

These extra and extreme sugars cause the release of a hormone called Insulin which is what shuttles sugar to our cells for energy.

Which is fine. We need this.

But, it's also important to know that while insulin is in the blood stream doing this — fat loss cannot occur.

Which is why insulin isn’t supposed to be significantly in the blood stream often, only when needed.

And that’s the problem. With the amount of extreme sugars (processed sugars, high fructose corn syrup) in most packaged foods and drinks these days… and the amount of hidden carbohydrate sources (carbs are just sugar to the body and “nutrition facts” labels can under-report by over two times)… we end up not with insulin in the blood stream “sometimes” as it should be — but all the time.

And that ensures fat loss can’t occur no matter what we do.

So that needs to be fixed.

But these sugars also throw off two other hormones: Leptin and Ghrelin — the hunger hormones.

Leptin tells your body that you’ve had enough food and to not feel hungry. Ghrelin says you need more food and so makes you hungry.

Processed sugars throw these two hormones off so that you will feel hungry, even starving sometimes… when your body already has more food than it needs.

If we don’t handle this, we’ll still have cravings after a diet and so gain it all right back.

So we need to cut these sugars out. They’re killing us here.

Lastly, there are some fats that make you gain body fat, and some that help you lose it. Specifically Omega 6 and Omega 3.

Omega 6 is necessary to your survival in proper amounts, but harmful to your hormones in large quantities. And it’s very high in almost all processed foods.

I won’t get into the details here, but your body needs these two types of fat in balance for a properly functioning body. So for every ounce of one type there should be an ounce of the other — a 1 to 1 ratio.

But processed foods throw this off so much that the ratios of most people are not 1:1, but 20:1, or in some cases even 40:1.

This raises the levels of another fat building hormone — Cortisol. And when Cortisol is too high for too long, we get all sorts of problems

So we need to lower the amount of Omega 6 we consume and raise our Omega 3 levels.

We cover all of these points in the Guide to Sustainable Fat Loss.
