In October 2022 at the age of 78, she became the oldest female ever to complete the world championship, winning that event. In 2020, she was inducted into the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame, and has also been featured on the Wheaties Energy Crunch cereal box. The goal of the foundation is to help these children get college educations, using the sport of triathlon as the vehicle. Funded almost entirely by donations from individuals in the triathlon world, it's been extremely successful, earning Cherie a national Jefferson Award for her efforts.
