The original range of Averrhoa carambola is believed to be from Sri Lanka or Indonesia, however it has been cultivated in the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia for hundreds of years and is readily available in the west. We highly recommend you try one out. The taste is sour-sweet and like a mix of apple, pear, grape, and citrus family fruits. Unripe star fruits are firmer and sour, and taste like green apples
